Why I built TaxGnosis
As a registered tax practitioner, I spent years helping South Africans navigate SARS. And in that time, I kept seeing the same three things happen — over and over.
People overpaying SARS. Not because they were dishonest — but because they didn't know what they were allowed to claim. A home office deduction missed here. A retirement annuity contribution not captured there. Thousands of rands left on the table every year.
People afraid of SARS. Convinced that SARS could do whatever it wanted. That there was no recourse. That if SARS said you owed money, you simply paid. When in reality, taxpayers have clear, legally protected rights — and a proper process to dispute any assessment they disagree with.
People confused by the forms. Staring at ITR12 source codes and VAT201 fields with no idea what any of it meant. Not because they weren't intelligent — but because nobody had ever explained it to them in plain language.
It's in the SARS publications. It's in the Tax Acts. It's in the practice notes that practitioners read every day. I just put it all together, translated it into plain language, and built it into an app that fits in your pocket.
TaxGnosis is the guide I wish every one of my clients had from day one. Now you do.
